VEGAS!!!

I'm in Vegas for the next 36 days!

I'm crashing at my buddy Adam's house he's renting here in Vegas for four nights until we get the house that I rented with some other friends on Friday.

I'll try to post the rest of the pictures from the U.S. Open when I get the chance.

I'm totally exhausted now and am going to hit the hay and get some sleep. Excited to be in Vegas though!

Shooting update

Yesterday I ended up doing OK in the preliminary event, shooting an 83/100. Today we shot the first day of the Main event and I feel I shot below average for what I was capable of doing. I ended up hitting 48/66.

Tomorrow we shoot the 2nd third of the Main event along with the first half of the FITASC event.

I've been trying to squeeze a bit of poker playing in on my laptop during this shooting trip but being outside in the sun, focusing on the targets, etc. is wearing me out big time so I haven't been able to play nearly as much as I would like.

Two more days of shooting then I fly out to Vegas!

By the way, the NHL Stanley Cup Finals are just starting to get intense! The Flyers just tied up the series at 2 games a piece by winning game four tonight. The next three games are going to be epic. Don't miss them! Blackhawks will win the Cup in Game 7!!!

Better day shooting

We got warmed up this morning shooting in the .410 ga event. The shotgun used to shoot in that event has significantly less pellets in each shell compared to the normal 12 ga. I didn't do that well in that event but neither did anyone else really. The high score so far in that event is pretty low compared to other high scores in the other small gauge events.

In the afternoon, we shot the 5-stand event and I shot pretty well. I could have done a bit better, as I missed a few straight-away shots that I shouldn't have. I also got a bit unlucky as after I hit my first target on one pair my gun jammed... the shell's brass separated from the plastic and I had to re-shoot the pair but ended up missing both of them the second time around (which is what counted). So that cost me a bird. But I finished with a 87/100 which was a pretty good score for myself considering the difficulty level of the targets.

I'm pretty tired out so I think I'm going to sleep soon. Tomorrow we just shoot one event, the Preliminary event which is 100 birds. After we finish with that, I'm going to try and get some online poker in.

In Mississippi!

My Dad, brother, and I are in Tunica, MS, and we shot the first day of the U.S. Open today.

We shot two events today: the 20ga event and the 28ga event. It was hella hot out, as it was around 90 degrees and very humid. I did OK in the 20 ga event... shooting an 83/100. Not good enough to win, but definitely a respectable score considering I haven't shot a shotgun since last fall.

The 28ga event was basically a disaster for me. It sucked because we didn't get any break at all hardly between the two events. We had to rush back to the van to get the different barrels and ammo, while I went off to get us something to eat. I ended up with three hotdogs and we hopped back on the golf cart, rushed to our station, and got there with like 10 minutes to spare. Just enough time to down our hotdogs and start shooting.

I was also pretty worn out from the heat and shooting the first 100 targets so it doesn't surprise me that I got destroyed during the 28 ga event. I did the worst I've done in a LONG time over a 100 bird registered shoot.... hitting only 61/100. I kind of gave up halfway through, which isn't good since it just makes bad go to worse. I'm not going to do that anymore and just take it station by station from now on.

Tomorrow we shoot the .410 ga event and the 5-stand event. So hopefully that goes well.

We ate at the casino buffet here at Harrahs and I played a two hour sesh of $1/3 NL live poker. FML I forgot how much I hated live poker. 30 hands per hour, especially after getting used to playing RUSH poker online lately, is just pure hell. I was playing around 1k hands per hour while playing RUSH poker. I ended up quitting, down $200.

Some asian idiot bluffed me in a ridiculous spot that made his line look hella strong so I just folded... he showed his air and it was kinda annoying considering he had shown down a hand every time beforehand. He looked super relaxed too after he made his move so I was convinced he wasn't bluffing. Whatever, fuck it.

It's so tilting when you make a mistake in live poker because since nothing ever really happens, that one mistake could make or break your day basically.

Think I'm definitely giving up on playing live poker here. It's just too small of stakes to make it worth it. I'm gonna play online with my extra time here.

U.S. Open coming up soon!

I ended up going back to rush poker on FTP. I'm going to give it a serious shot and not get focused on daily results.

I've been pretty busy lately. I'm headed out to shoot in the U.S. Open Sporting Clays Championship in Mississippi on the 30th so I'm trying to cram a bunch of hands in before I leave for that. I probably won't have much time to play the entire first week of June, because the shoot is a full week long. I'm looking forward to it though and to seeing my Dad and brother who will be picking me up at the airport.

After that.... VEGAS! So I have an exciting couple of months ahead of me.

played some RUSH poker on FTP today and broke even like a fish.

I need to re-listen to the Tony Robbins personal power tapes... my motivation to work is dwindling due to my constant treading water over the past 5 days or so.
